Tempus fugit

The air is cooler and the leaves are slowly beginning their preparation for winter. Soon they will start turning vivid colors; fall to the ground, covering grasses, lanes and sidewalks. Then the sound of leaf blowers will fill the neighborhood as the last remnants of summer are blown away.

Before we know it Halloween will be upon us with precious little ghosts and goblins ringing doorbells. They will shout "Trick or treat" and be on their way after partaking of the candy and goodies offered them

The first frost of winter will arrive one morning and then the delicious aromas of fires wafting up from chimneys will signal the comfy, snuggling time of year has arrived.

Thanksgiving and the turkey are just around the corner. Then Christmas. Before you turn around twice it is New Year's Eve and the crowd at Times Square in New York City counts down to "Happy New Year"

Father time could you please slow down a bit for us this year so time will pass more slowly.

What's the big hurry anyway?

You have echoed my thoughts of the past 10 years! My mom used to tell me that the older I got - the faster time would pass. I didn't believe her then, but I surely do now. Odd though, even my grandchildren mention how quickly time is passing, and when I was a child, time was as slow as molasses!

You are so right Chancy. This summer flew by like it was only about a month long. And now...the last quarter of the year ALWAYS flys by for me...just as you say. Before we know it...there will be a new year. It seems, especially in the last few years, that the holidays kind of blend into one another, and we can't fully appreciate each one on it's own anymore. I wish someone had the magic answer for slowing things down.

My friend and I were just taking about this same subject. I seem to have missed the first part of September it went by so fast. The good news is that, so far, there have been no hurricanes in the area to slow time to a crawl as they pass.

Ha, but the older we get and the faster time flies. Sometimes I have trouble remembering if something happened this summer or ten summers ago... Only children find that time passes too slowly!

You can tell this is an elder discussion, can't you?
I think time is like a roll of toilet paper. All of the days are the same size, but the longer you have been rolling them off, the faster they fly by.
It would help if they didn't put Christmas decorations up until after Thanksgiving, instead of November 1. Next thing you know they will be taking down the Easter Bunny to put up the witch and the scarecrow.

The older I get, time goes more quickly.

I have a cleaning lady once a month and lately before I turn around, she's back.

It's the end of September and before I know it, I'll be packing up for my winter in Florida. It seems like I just got back a short while ago.

I think the fact that our world nowadays is so concentrated on doing everything as fast as possible adds to the illusion.
It seems like this is an "immediate gratification" generation and I don't think they have any idea how satisfying it can be to actually wait for something you want...until you deserve it, or have worked for it.

Every year it seems to go a little faster. Yes.. please.. can we please slow it down a little. :-)

Sorry you blinked and missed Christmas :)

The holidays all seem to run together this time of year and I don't think it is because I am ageing. I think it is the rush to get the dollar in the cash register.

I'm playing catchup. I've been off the computer for the past week. Dr's orders to rest my shoulder. What a drag---but I'm sure he's right. Once I get on I won't get off!

I loved this post. How true, how true. And like Kenju said, what a difference from when we were young and time crawled by.

Actually, time goes so fast for me now that I can hardly remember what day of the week it is. (And I know you believe me!) I'm just trying very hard to savor every short minute---esp those that are delicious. Great post, dear Chancy.

I was just talking with a friend about this business of time going faster as I get older. Since so many of us are experiencing the same perception, I wonder if we're living in a different dimension than those whose time moves slower? Well, it was just a thought as I'm no Einstein.

Sorry Chancy, seems I printed my comments in two dimensions, but they both showed up here. Well, I tried! ;-)

Hi Chancy
I totally agree. I can't believe how fast 2006 has gone. I've started puting down memories in my blog (and collecting more from other people) in a fear that I am forgetting the detail of childhood. Life seems to pass by much quicker the happier you are though, which is a blessing!
