So many choices

THIS DAY IN HISTORY: (yesterday)
"General Mills Introduces Cheerios as CheeriOats (1941)The introduction of Cheerios on May 1, 1941, under the name of "CheeriOats," was marked by an aggressive marketing campaign. The cereal's original mascot, "Cheeri O'Leary," was short-lived, but successful advertising and an association with The Lone Ranger led to sales of approximately 1.8 million cases of the cereal in the first year alone. In 1945, the name of the cereal was changed to Cheerios."

-----------------------

I did not realize that "Cheerios" had been around so long. When I was a child I remember Kellogg's Corn Flakes, Wheaties, Shredded Wheat and Rice Krispies. Now a stroll down the cereal aisle at the local supermarket reveals box after box and shelf after shelf of all sort of cereals. Some of which exist only to appeal to children with the free small toys inside and the high sugar content

. One of my favorites was and still is, Quaker Oatmeal ,which of course had to be cooked. Toss in some raisins and you had a breakfast fit for a queen.

Now we even have choices of musical rings on cell phones. I hardly ever use my cell phone and I recently changed my ring tone to a plain old fashioned telephone ring. Previously, when the melody I had chosen would start to play I would look around to see where the music was coming from and miss the call. I have come a long way from the old fashioned black party line telephone, the one you see in all the old movies from the 30's and 40's.

And do you remember when you could chose the color of your automobile as long as it was "Black"..
.
Oh yes. And don't forget the 101 choices our government had us wade through in order to make a decision on Medicare RX.

Ok I know what you are thinking. I should be grateful that I am still capable of making good choices. And you are right.
but still I say;

Choices, Choices ,Choices. too many choices.

Choices ... yes, I too, have sometimes thought they would do me in because of their number.

One of my favorite cereals to sprinkle across the top of whatever other cereal I was eating was Bran Buds, but it seems to have disappeared from all the shelves where I shop, many years ago. Surely would like some to add to my Quaker Oats which I then top with fresh fruit.

I remember the phone at my grandmothers that was on the wall. Have forgotten her party line code, two longs and a short or some such combination.

Don't envy those who had to wade through the recent ins. choices foisted on them in the name of ... undermining the solvency of Medicare even more ... providing prescription coverage for all ... about the "donut" ...?

Yes, I too remember the party lines. My family also had the rings of some combo that meant we were to answer not the other party. And after all these years I remember the number...

17 W --elegant in its simplicity.

Unlike the numbers here in Atlanta now where we must dial an area code, either 404 or 770, and THEN the 6 digit number even for local calls. And most cell phone numbers are 678, then the number.

Numbers numbers numbers....

Joy Cheerios are greaaaat regardless of what "Tony the Tiger" says about "Frosted Flakes"

And Cheerios many times are little ones first finger foods. Pour some out on a high chair tray and they are set for a while in finger to mouth bliss.

(Note to self) Save place for Lucy and a stiff drink to ease her dentist pain.)

I am totally amazed, when I walk down the cereal aisle, at all the choices when all I want are plain old bran flakes. Who ever thought buying cereal would lead to so many options. :-). I too have turned my cell phone ring to the simple original sound. I find the others are too quiet and by the time I hear them.. I do not have enough time to catch the call. Ah.. for the simple days.

There are two many choices and waiters ask two many questions like "Soup or Salad?" or "What type of dressing on your salad" "Will you have potatoes or rice?" and "How do you like your steak?" Lord, by the time they get through taking a simple order, I am exhausted from making so many choices.
