Last night I had a sleeping problem. I read for about an hour. Turned out the light at 11:30 PM was still awake at 12:30. I said "to heck with it" I will just read until I drop off to sleep. I did and my book fell out of my hands about 2PM. Had restless, unpleasant dreams until about 7AM.
I know, I know. The book I was reading, a Swedish murder mystery. "Sidetracked" by Henning Mankell is too stimulating. One of the best mysteries I have ever read.
"Mankell's third Detective Kurt Wallander mystery revolves around the veteran Swedish inspector's search for a savage serial killer who scalps his victims after delivering a fatal hatchet blow"
" Winner of Sweden's 1997 Best Crime Novel of the Year, this is another terrific offering from the talented Mankell"
This book is not nearly as gruesome as it sounds. Much of it is told from the police point of view as they race to stop the killer.
OK I know. Not exactly bedtime, relaxing reading but I am hooked and can't wait to finish this book and get the next Kurt Wallander mystery.
Oh well. I am still functioning today.

I hope your sleeping improves tonight. I hate missing sleep. I just went to our library site, and reserved the book you're reading. I love a good mystery. I'll just remember to read earlier in the day.
Thanks
I hate it when the night is never ending.. but I do so love a good murder mystery. :-)
I just happened upon the book "Sidetracked" at my neighborhood library. On the new books shelves was a mystery by the same author " The Man from Beijing" I also checked "Beijing" out but after reading reviews on Amazon I decided to go with "Sidetracked" Better review. And Beijing is not a Kurt Wallender mystery. There are many others in this series which I will also try out.
We all hate nights like that Janet. I guess it's best to make the most of them...and reading is always a good way to pass those waking hours. It puts me to sleep quicker than anything. Sometimes I do crossword and word puzzles...or go on the computer for a while; but reading seems to make me tired faster than anything. Sounds like a pretty good book...
Geeze, seems like a gruesome subject to be reading about to put you to sleep. *smile*
I love the Mankell novels.
There is a series of Swedish mankell films on English TV. In spite of the sub titles the series is spell binding and unmissable.
Totally realistic, neither full of glamorous people as American shows tend to be nor all chocolate boxy as the English series so often are.
I read myself to sleep every night but I have to admit that I'm not fond of mysteries...the historical novels that I like to read take me off to another world but don't usually get me riled up.
Hope you've been able to catch up on your sleep since then.
