Ah youth!

Do you remember your first pair of blue jeans?

I do.

I was 16 years old and a senior in high school. Of course back then girls were not allowed to wear pants of any kind to school. In fact women and girls simply did NOT wear pants. Shorts perhaps in the summertime but never to school work or down town. Dresses or skirts were the correct apparel.

Levi Strauss had begun making "ladies jeans" in 1934 for western wear but they had not yet arrived in the sleepy college town of Athens, Georgia.

When the jeans fad hit, my two girlfriends and I went downtown to a department store ( this was before the advent of malls) and bought boys jeans and rolled up the legs to the desired length. We thought we were hot stuff and a bit racy.

These jeans lasted forever, thru many, many washings.

Now I live in pants. Dress and casual. However jeans are not in my wardrobe anymore. As a woman of a certain age and SIZE, sad to say, I have "outgrown" jeans.

Ah youth!

I bet if I still had those jeans they would be worth a small fortune as antique denim has become a collectors item.

I don't think there's an age limit for jeans.

I think I was 14 when I got my first pair, and I remember going to Levin's store in my hometown, the ONLY place there that sold Levi's. We wore them rolled up at the hem.

I still wear them, but they come from a mail-order store that sells "relaxed fit"....LOL

I posted about the tragedy of wearing pants the last day of junior high school a while back. I still wear jeans although I am finding some pairs are getting a little too tight!

I do have one pair of sorta jeans. At least they are blue but not denim and have a stretch waist band.

I need to drag them out soon :)

I bought a pair of jeans to wear on a picnic a few years ago. I only wore them one time as they were so uncomfortable. They are resting in a drawer now. I think they will join other buying mishaps in the bag to give to a charity.

I wouldn't say that I "live" in pants but the other day I wore a skirt and three of my friends commented on it !

I did have a couple of pairs of pants while in college - twill, with slide zippers that zipped horizontally around one's waist, and I occassionally wore my fiance's/Hunky Husband's jeans in the late 1950s/early 1960s; but, I don't think that I bought myself a pair of jeans until the late 1970s, when I was in my late 30s/early 40s.

Now, I wear Lands' End's sport knit pants (thankfully, they come in "talls" and do not cut me in two when I sit) - not jeans. I agree with Clancy that jeans are better left to the younger crowd. Hunky Husband, however, favors jeans for day-to-aday activities, opting for Dockers when he goes to the Red Cross office or on assignment.

I really, really find skits/dresses to be more comfortable than pants; but, I wear pants as a matter of modesty. I started wearing dress pants at work (rather than dresses) when I discovered that I was embarrassing the mechanics when I climbed ladders to peer at a problem with an airplane. That would have been 20 years ago!

P.S. I think that each person should choose for herself whether to wear jeans or not. I am not the arbitor of anyone else's taste!

I don't remember my first pair of jeans, but I know it was in my teen years. I am in my70's now and still love to wear jeans.

In fact we are RVing in the mountains right now and I am so comfortable in my Gloria Vanderbilt's size 8's.

Now a days kids are in jeans before they can walk. And they look very cute too. :-). Jeans are still my backup pants for many occasions.. especially anything involving the great outdoors and dogs. :-)

I loved blue jeans, but my Mom and Aunt thought them most unladylike for me to wear as much as I wanted, but they tolerated my doing so.

FWIW I've resumed some writing and blogging.
