TomKat

I am down with the nasty beginning of a sore throat and cold.

(one of the grandchildren brought it to me last Tuesday "as a present" when I kept her)

Since I am sick and desperate for blog fodder, I will
post about the "Wedding of the Century" from the Washington Post.

TomKat Wedding: Believe the Hype

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise in Rome on Wednesday. (AP)And so the circle of life continues to turn. Make way Britney and Kevin, we must now shove the wasteland of your dying marriage aside to make room for the pomp, circumstance and overblown hype that herald the union of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

As Celebritologists, we too have a vested interest in this marriage. We will be bold with snap judgments about Katie's dress. We'll speculate about the relative merits of her going barefoot or Tom standing on a box. We'll wonder if L. Ron Hubbard's cryogenic chamber has been shipped special to Italy to witness the commingling of Scientology royalty (like Dan Snyder and J.Lo) or if he'll only be there in spirit (like Oprah).

Before we I get too carried away (because I have to tell you, I was headed for an inevitable comparison with the "Beetlejuice" wedding scene), let's ground our expectations in a little reality.

A Bracciano shopkeeper adjusts a portrait of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in her store window. PHOTO GALLERY: Prepping for TomKat (AP)First, set the scene. Peruse this pre-wedding photo gallery of the (reported) humble wedding site, an the 15th century Castello Orsini-Odescalchi, nestled in the quaint Italian village of Bracciano -- a town so beautiful that Pope Sixtus IV himself rode out the plague there. Perhaps TomKat will have similar luck escaping the paparazzi. (The castle itself has a Web site, but I'm prettily informed that it is "Impossibile visualizzare la pagina.")

Next, block out an hour to spend with Brides.com editor Theresa DiMasi, who will be online at Noon ET today to answer questions about Scientology nuptials and celebrity weddings in general.

Finally, join Oprah and the rest of the uninvited to toast the happy couple from afar. Or, if you're not in the mood, have a self-satisfied moment hoping this story about Tom being too pudgy for his wedding suit is true."

And so Mrs Cruise number three begins her 10 year reign (or so I have read.)

The baby is precious and her name is Suri Cruise. Her Dad was born in Syracuse.
Coincidence or planned?

I have heard that after all the pomp and hype have died down, they will STILL not be legally married. Do you know if this is true?

TomKat's publicist said that the couple were married in a civil ceremony before they left LA.

You know Chancy...I have always loved celebrities...and what goes on in their lives...ever since I can remember as a kid. If you were to ask me facts or trivia about a celebrity's career or even their personal life...I very well might know it. It's just kind of like second nature for me to be aware of these things. But, I honestly have to say....I am so tired of all the hype surrounding TomKat, that I could give a rat's patoot what may or may not happen next in their lives. I say congratulations to them...I hope they will live long and prosper. But, I'm betting we'll hear that there's trouble in paradise a little further down the road.

I agree with the "trouble in paradise" forcast. If Tom Cruise could not stay married to Nicole Kidman (or visa versa) then it makes me wonder what sort of husband he is.

Katie Holmes is wifey number 3 for Tom.

I have not had the chance to see or hear much of, or about, the wedding but I must admit to being a little curious.

Third marriages with lots of hype are silly. You've blown it twice, just have a nice civil ceremony and hope you have your act together this time. I was unhappy that they were so rude to the Italians who are so into romance and wished them well.

Tabor I agree 100%.

But whoever said that Hollywood celebs are interested in good taste?

It's all publicity all the time. Unless the paparazzi photographs them and then it is "no fair"

Chancy, you did it proud. I was not the least bit interested in Tom and I feel sorry for Katie and the baby. I will be surprised if it lasts 10 years.

All that money spent on ... what? How much good could have been accomplished if just a portion spent the spectacle had gone to feed the hungry or search for a cure? How sad that the couple could not have found a suitable site in this beautiful country, a country that provided them with most of their wealth!

Chancy, here's hoping you're feeling better and can enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones.

Have not been that interested in celebrities personal "doings," but it's awfully hard to escape being bombarded with all the details even in so-called legitimate news. Really could care less about these latest same 'ol, same 'ol stories that make the news.

I did think of you when I watched the Tony Bennett Special on TV the other night and wondered if you, too, were watching. Now, that's entertainment!

Jorad Thanks so much for your concern. Yes I am better but not yet well. We had daughter and son and their spouses and 4 grands over. My husband was his usual stalwart helper and the children brought most of the meal.It was a delight to be together once again.

And yes we DID watch the Tony
Bennett special and I taped it.

Yesterday, November 22, was our
55th wedding anniversary, so we were especially touched when Tony Bennett sang our song "Because of You." We even danced a few steps while listening to Tony sing.

PS 55 years ago, November 22, was on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanks for thinking of me
