My Buddy

I will be eighty years old on December 17 this year. WOW !!

I never dreamed of still being around this long. As a teen ager I used to count up and marvel at the year 2000 when I would be seventy-one. but EIGHTY ...That seemed hard to imagine.

But here I am and God willing and "the creek don't rise" I will make it as an octogenarian in December.

So what is an appropriate present for one who has achieved this milestone?

A diamond ring? No. Already have one. A new car. No, my ten year old Mercedes is still ticking along just fine. Fur coat? No. Too warm in Atlanta for the fur I already have.

Humm
What would be a swell present ?

Well,.... I don't have a puppy.

And "happiness is a warm puppy"

So enter "Buddy" my new friend.

He is an almost 4 month old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. Light brown (red) and white. Blenheim. And just precious.

We got him two weeks ago and my life has been a whirlwind of housebreaking and learning the habits of a puppy after 18 years of life without a pet.

At times during the last two weeks I have thought of having my head examined for wanting a pet to raise at my age. But the pleasure of his company has more than balanced out the bother and messes that come with puppydom.

And Buddy makes me feel young at heart again .:)

Mr. Chancy and I are more than content with this new member of our family.

Buddy likes us just fine too.

A puppy! I would not have guessed, but it sounds like the perfect present. Looking forward to pictures. Happy Pre-Birthday wishes and I think I will begin planning for my 70th...even though it is a little ways away.

Pre-happy 80th, Chancy! I can't believe you got a puppy, but an old friend of mine, who turned 83 last Jan. got one and she has not been sorry one minute. Hers is a Bichon Frise (sp?) and he barks all the time! I hope your spaniel will bring you great happiness!

I love the smell of a nice and clean little puppy and they are so cute, sweet and fun. What a delightful birthday gift.
Here's an early birthday wish for you special day -- and eighty -- once seemed so far away, I'm sure. Will be catching up in a few years, but guess you'll still be ahead of me.

I'd love to have a furry friend, but when I consider the care required I've concluded the negatives outweigh the positives for me, at least for now.

Dang!!!! I'm jealous!!!! I would love a nice dog around. Visits from D.O.G. (half yellow lab/half golden retriever) who lives across the street are such a delight.

I'm so glad you're enjoying him!

Happy Birthday!!!!

Enjoy that puppy. We have friends who have two of those little fellows, Charlie and Mikey. And they are just so lively.

And should I forget, Happy Birthday a bit early.

Cas
I'd sure like to see some pictures.

Chancy--If a puppy is what your heart desired, I'm happy that you got one. Enjoy settling into a new relationship and have a great birthday!

I miss my buddy, a Bichon Frise (You had it right, Kenju). There is nothing more comforting than a warm body in your lap. I envy you being able to have a puppy. It is not possible for me. However, I do not envy you having to train a puppy. They can be so destructive.

I followed your link to see what the breed looks like and think they are adorable.

Welcome to the Octogenarian bunch, Chancy. I'm a bit early, but happy birthday. It's a milestone and I hope you have a big celebration planned.

80 is not that old!! Especially when you're in the later part of the 70's like I am. I keep pushing the acceptable date up further but never thought about getting a "buddy" to make it easier. Have fun with him, he's adorable.

I would have a puppy to go with our Beagle but I don't want to get one that will outlive me, or my husband. We have spoiled our beagle terribly and I just hope he goes before us. I am a huge dog lover and this is the first time we have only had one dog. Each time we lost one or had to have one put to sleep, tears and more tears. Yep I made it to 80 and it was a big day and I was worn out but oh so happy. My kids showed me how much they loved me.

That's why god spelled backwards is DOG!

I am a big time pooch lover. We have three - newest is a 6 month old boxer pup named Ruby (toobie).
She is a handful, but what a joy to our house!

Congrats on Buddy and your upcoming 80Th!
