Tomorrow is the big day

OK, Please remind me why I thought last Christmas buying an artificial tree, a 6 footer, was a good idea; granted it was an absolutely gorgeous frasier fir fake that had it's own twinkling white lights. It was beautiful when we got all the ornaments on we have collected over the years. I even bought some "Eau De Forest" spray so the tree would smell like the real thing and it was a success. Did I mention it doesn't shed?

But now it resides in a huge box in the downstairs, under the stairs closet with Costco paper supplies, bedding for the hide a bed in the adjacent playroom, several old paintings and the rest of the Christmas decorations. All of the flotsam and jetsam has to be moved out of this small closet to remove the tree from its' year of slumber. then carry the heavy green fir pieces, 4 in all, up the stairs to the living room where my husband and I will have removed a tilt top table, lamp and a marble sculpture we bought in Mexico some time back, to make room for the tree.

Each of the four pieces of the tree are quite heavy with the wiring for the lights and they have to be attached to each other from bottom to top in a way that permits the lights to work... Hubby will start to assemble the pieces: (I will then proceed to kibitz and suggest that perhaps he is not doing it exactly right) ;)... We will finally get it assembled .Then put on all the ornaments and the tree skirt around the base.
Whew

But then after we sit still for a while and admire the beautiful. twinkling tree lights we will go outside and stand in the street and gaze at the image reflected in the front window of our house and breathe a sigh of relief and I will hug him and say :"It IS the prettiest we have ever had."

Now I get it..

IT'S CHRISTMAS AGAIN
AND ALL'S RIGHT WITH THE WORLD

Too bad your tree isn't all one piece, like mine. But then, lugging it down from the attic (on pull-down-stairs) isn't easy either.

Merry Christmas!

Yes all in one piece would be good but it is so heavy with the wiring for the lights. We got it up and put together today. I will finish decorating it tomorrow.

Ours is artificial and pre-lighted and I was at first concerned about the various warnings on electrical fires and cancer from the paint use...really...but now it goes up this second year without a pause.

I've finally honed Christmas down to a little 4 foot tree but it's special to me and I love to see it twinkling in the window...just as you wrote about with yours!

Ginnie, I have two ovens; the larger one is self-cleaning (but is broken) and the smaller one has to be cleaned! Bah.

Ah, Chancy, your tree does sound lovely. We succumbed to an artificial tree some years ago. I'm lucky this year because my teenage granddaughter and her mother want to decorate the tree when they arrive next week. It took little effort for me to graciously agree to wait until their arrival to put up our tree.

I think they'll likely even take it down in 2009 before they return home. Could I ask for more? Now that I'm alone, if I have a year when no family comes or I don't travel to them, I think I'll drag out only a small table top size pre-decorated lights and all tree I have. Maybe I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Your tree sounds so lovely. Ours too is a prelite tree.. but we downsized last year. Ours is about 3 feet high and is perched on a small table. It still looks lovely... but not nearly as majestic as the larger ones.

Oh Janet, I gave in to artificial trees some years ago; but I was never the one to put them together....only decorate them. It is kind of a pain to haul them out and put them up. I do miss the smell of a real tree...always have. I even bought that pine-scented spray, but I always forget to use it. As I said in one of my previous posts...my kids generally put up the tree for me...thank God...it's a chore I'm happy to pass on. I use to add an extra little tree in the basement when the kids were still around, but obviously that has gone by the wayside too.
