Did you happen to watch the Westminister Dog Show last week? The Beagle won. The first time in the over 100 year history of the dog show that a beagle has won Best In Show.
Uno is his name and he was regal and spirited and quite a ham. When the judge called Uno out to the center and presented the trophy to his handler the crowd went wild and roared. With that, Uno could no longer retain his show ring composure. He stood on his hind legs, leaned against his handler and barked; then threw his head back and howled.
Bless his heart.
And don't you know Charles Schultz and Snoopy were looking down from heaven grinning from ear to ear.

I didn't see the show, but I have since seen photos of Uno and read about it. My grandkids were ecstatic, since they have a beagle named Bojangles. They are so proud that a beagle won!
I saw the show Chancy...and I just loved that Uno won. I love beagles. What a sweetie he is.

Tell your grandkids that I like the name Bojangles for a Beagle. Such a happy, free spirited name.:)
I missed the dog show, but heard about the beagle. Two beagles live across the street from me. Fortunately, they don't do much baying -- loud noise for such a little dog. I always recall pictures of LBJ lifting his beagles by the ears.
I saw part of the show and remember Uno most for that white-tipped tail swaying as he pranced beside his handler. He seemed to really enjoy the attention.
It is about time that a beagle won. However as you can well expect we were rooting for the dachshund and the maltese.
I love this little guy and am so happy that he won. His joyful bays had me laughing out loud. :-
I've always loved beagles. But the one experience we've had as owners was an unhappy one. Many years ago, we obtained a one-year old beagle, Barney,in late summer. He adjusted easily to our home and we loved him. When the summer was over, my wife returned to her high school-teaching job, leaving Barney alone at home all day for the first time. Poor Barney went berserk and chewed up rugs, sofas, and everything else in sight. He had evidently never been so lonely before. Sadly, Barney was returned to the pound, where we had obtained him. We've had dogs all through our married life: a wire-haired dachshund, an Afghan hound, and the most magnificent pair of West Highland terriers (our favorites). Unfortunately, our dog-owning days ended some 15 years ago when we became snowbirds, commuting to Florida each winter. The logistics of dog-owning were too much for an aging couple. We miss owning a dog very much, but we get vicarious joy from our son's Australian shepherd, a breed I was not familiar with before. He is the most handsome, lovable, and intelligent dog I've ever known. Our 3 grandsons have to compete with him for our affectionate attention.
